This is (shallow depth of field) photograph of a chick with a top hat on.

This was probably edited  in photoshop. The top hat could have either been actually on the chick, or added on using the selection tool and burn tool to add shadows. Judging by the direction of light, the hat most likely was actually sitting on the the chick’s head.  The levels were probably adjusted in order to get the warm lighting.

The light gives a sense of direction moving across the photograph. The positon of the chick with no other object surrounding it makes it easily the focal point. The color of the chick and floor provide a sense of unity, as well, within the photograph.

This is a poster that says, “Do what you dream” inside of a whimsical looking cloud. The cloud is the dream itself because it shows the trail of “z’s” leading up up the cloud.

This poster looks as though it was made in illustrator. The lines and shapes could have been made using the pin tool, or they could have been made using multiple circles and ellipses, and used the pathfinder tool, merge, to merge the circles together. The text was made using the text tool, and maybe one of the previous tools explained in order to get the similar texture.

Texture and color are the two elements that make this poster successful. The colors are very much associated with night time and dream, but give a “I dream of genie” feeling. The curved lines show the puffiness of the clouds that make viewer instantly think of dreams.

This looks like it could be a legos advertisement showing what little kids imagine when they play with legos.

The was most likely made in photoshop. The lego piece was cut using the selection tool. They must have cut a ship and copied it, and used the fading black gradient tool to create the detailed shadow and then replace the ship with the two legos. I love the simplicity of this composition.

The color in this piece is very vibrant in this piece. The white on the cobalt blue background stands out significantly. The use of light is also very important because without it, the shadow would not be present and the range of colors would not also be present as well.

This looks to be a french book cover or magazine cover. I put this on my blog because I love the simplicity and cleverness of the picture, and how it relates a heart with lips.

It looks as though this was made in photoshop. The photo was probably color corrected, and either the blur tool was used or they shot the photo using a small depth of field to create the blurry background. The text was created using the text tool, and type on a path or effects to create the curve.

The use of color is very prominent within this piece. The bright red heart is focal point of the cover because of its color compared to the beige colored background.

This looks to be a poster of a model or actress made up of bright and colorful geometric shapes.

This was most definitely made in illustrator. They could’ve taken a photo of her and image traced it to created different shapes and change the colors of those shapes. As far as the smaller pieces, the shape or pin tool were used to create the different geometric shapes.

Shape, scale, and color are the three elements most used in this piece. The entire composition is made up of different shapes of all  different sizes in order to accentuate the details of her face, especially in  her eyes. The different shades and hues of the bright colors gives the piece dimension, instead of making it look flat.

This is poster was created by the famous graphic designer, Neville Brody. It is a portrait of a celebrity (although I’m not sure who it is, but he looks familiar) that is made up of all words and phrases. Even the tiniest shadows and textures are made up of very small words.

This poster could easily be made in illustrator or photoshop using the text tool. The color gradients and spot of light in the corner might have been created  in photoshop using the gradient tool and the paint brush/eraser to give that glowing effect.

The use of scale in this poster is very interesting because it would be hard to distinguish the man if there wasn’t any differentiation in the sizes. The smaller words make up the smaller areas to distinguish the shape, while the larger words fill the larger shapes better, as well as create an interesting composition.

This is a portrait of a man with sunglasses, and is made up of multiple colored circles.

This looks as though it was made in illustrator. They could have used the image trace to grab all of the colors, and locked that image as the background so it could be used as a guide to know where to place the right colors in the correct position.

Shape and color are two important elements within this piece. The circles needed to be placed just right to shows the smooth transition of the gradients in the skin. The circles create distinct lines that are  jagged and create a texture that smooth lines would not be able to achieve.

This is a picture of a keyboard with the hustle and bustle of the cityscape on the white keys.

This was definitely made in photoshop. There are two different pictures (keyboard, and cityscape) with the keyboard picture in front of the cityscape. The selection tool was use to select all of the white keys so the opacity could be lowered, and you can see the cityscape. They also could have slightly erased the white keys to show the scene in the background.

The colors of the cityscape on the keyboard stand out next to the black, and the use of light is very interesting because of the way it splits the photograph in half.

This is a picture of a woman made up of different shapes and textures. It looks like she would be a dancer because the way her hair is pinned back with a red flower in her bun.

This was definitely made in photoshop. Because you can clearly see her face, and the shapes making up her face, the idea of manipulating layers and copying and erasing layers was used to make it successful. The burn tool was used for the shadows, and there are some areas where “noise” was added to give it a certain texture.

The use of light, color, and texture is visible in this piece. The light creates dramatic shadows and highlights on her face. There are different textures such as,  sandpaper, smooth skin, and the stringy hair that make the overall composition successful and interesting. The color of the of the skin, flower, and background all play off of each other in a sense that the woman does not fade into the background, but actually stands out.

This is an image of a giraffe ironing his fur as if it was a sweater. I find this photo to be very funny because it is not everyday that you see animals “take off” their fur,  in order to iron it to make it look presentable.

This was definitely made in photoshop. The drop shadows were made with the gradient tool, and were adjusted to give objects in the photo dimension. The sweater was probably selected and copied and manipulated using puppet warp. the faded fur on the giraffe could have be made with the blur tool, the eraser tool, or the stamp/patch tool.

I feel as though texture plays the biggest role in the picture. The texture of the fur on the ironing board, the texture of the ironing board, and the texture of where the fur was taken off all different, and distinctive. The simple gradient background makes it easier to see the detail in the objects.
